Further Exploring our Yard

In the other group of pictures there is a red eft we found in August, now in September we found the adult red-spotted newt. Adults are olive green with a yellow belly and red spots on the back. This could be the same creature, their puberty is much shorter than ours!
Our neighbor's dog - he can sniff out when we arrive and shows up on our deck with 1 or 2 tennis balls in his mouth ready to play catch. His name is Shadow and this is a rare moment when he and Sadie sat down. His family lives at the end of the street and according to them Sadie makes her way to their house too. Quite a life these dogs have up there!
While Mike and I do work outside - staining our living room shelves and splitting logs - Shadow tries to convince us to play catch. He is ADDICTED to playing catch. Sadie ignores everyone and just chews her bone. She growls if anyone comes near her, as though I want what was once a cow leg - she's lucky I got it for her!
This is Daisy, from the horse farm down the mountain from us. Apparently she cannot find her way home on her own even though she found her way to our deck, so perhaps her name is really Dazey.
Sadie had fun playing with Daisy, not many dogs are submissive to her!
A tree fell in our yard - fortunately this is not near the house. You can see just how large the tree is from the size of the trunk. I thought it was neat the way all the branches looked so I had to take a picture. Below is Mike climbing on a Birch tree that was knocked over by this tree falling on it. I climbed onto the tree too and teased Sadie into thinking she could climb up as well.

After this trip we checked our deed so now we have a better idea of the property line. Apparently a rock wall and an area that would make a neat campsite are ours as well. In Vermont it is common to see man-made rock walls that probably acted as property borders.
